Herald Cup Quarter Finals for St Paul’s

U16 Football Squad who have reached the Quarter Final stages of the Ulster Colleges’ BT Herald Cup.

St Paul’s High School Herald Cup team has qualified for the Quarter Final of the prestigious Ulster Colleges championship, meeting St Columb’s College, Derry in the next round. By virtue of finishing top of their league, St Paul’s beat De La Salle College, Belfast, St Mary’s Christian Brothers’ Grammar School, Belfast, and St Louis Grammar School, Kilkeel.

The team finished with maximum league points from their three games played. Now pitched against a very strong St Columb’s team, they will be forced to field without their inspirational captain Peter Hughes of Dromintee who has broken his hand from a recent club match.

Although physically small the Bessbrook boys have sewn together some free flowing football and have run up some impressive scores against bigger and stronger opposition. The defence has been solid with each player accepting responsibility for his own man rather than rather than relying on the blanket defence.

St Paul’s will play their Quarter Final on Friday 21 October, at a venue yet to be confirmed.  We wish the boys all the best in their upcoming match.
