There were sunny spells and there were showers at St Paul’s today, but the intermittent rain did nothing to dampen our pupils’ enthusiasm for a great Sports Day. From the first race of the morning to the final presentation, our Key Stage 3 pupils gave everything to the track, the sandpit and the throwing circle, ably assisted by our senior PE and Sport pupils, and they did it in the spirit that matters most here: effort, teamwork and pride in their school.
Across four sessions, our young athletes competed in the 100m and 400m sprints, the relays, long jump, high jump and shot put. There were personal bests, photo finishes and no shortage of noise from the sidelines. Every year group brought its energy, and every competitor played their part.
At the heart of Sports Day is a tradition St Paul’s holds dear: the awarding of the Victor Ludorum, the “Winner of the Games”, to the outstanding boy and girl in each year group. It is the highest individual honour of the day, earned across many events by the athletes who combine skill, determination and consistency from the first whistle to the last.
We are proud to congratulate our 2026 Victors Ludorum:
- Year 8: Leo McConville and Erin Keenan
- Year 9: Dylan McCoy and Molly O’Neill
- Year 10: Daniel Casey and Paige Kelly
These six pupils join a long line of St Paul’s athletes whose names have been called as Winner of the Games, and they should be very proud of what they achieved today.
There were, of course, many more winners on the day than we can name here, in the individual events and in the team competitions, and every one of them deserves credit. Our thanks go to the staff who planned, marshalled and cheered the day into life, to the senior pupils who helped it run so smoothly, and to every competitor who took part.
As we enter our sixtieth year, Sports Day 2026 was a fitting reminder of what makes this school community special.
