Our Year 8 boys made a fantastic start to their Mid Ulster Cup campaign today with an impressive 9-1 victory over St John the Baptist, Portadown.
The boys represented St Paul’s impeccably, producing an outstanding team performance full of energy, skill and determination. Some excellent patterns of play were on display throughout the match, with the team linking up brilliantly and showcasing the talent within the squad.
Goals came from: Kris Keenan (2), including one from a superbly worked corner routine and another with a powerful left-footed strike. Jonah McParland, who found the bottom corner with a well-taken finish. Bobby Farrell, whose tireless work rate saw him cover every blade of grass before deservedly getting on the scoresheet. Liam McCoy, who demonstrated excellent composure and skill by shifting the ball onto his right foot before calmly slotting past the onrushing goalkeeper. Max Brown, who not only scored a well-earned goal but also anchored the midfield superbly, breaking up opposition attacks and creating opportunities for his teammates with his vision and quality on the ball. Clarke O’Reilly, who showed great composure to finish confidently. Cormac O’Rourke (2), including an excellent finish into the bottom-right corner after latching onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Archie Savage.
At half-time, several substitutes were introduced and they maintained the same intensity, commitment and quality as those they replaced. Their performances have certainly given the coaching staff plenty to think about ahead of the next fixture.
Overall, it was a hugely encouraging display from the entire squad, with every player contributing to a memorable victory.
Congratulations to all the boys on a superb performance.
The win sees our Year 8 team progress to the next round of the Mid Ulster Cup, where they will travel to St Patrick’s, Keady. We wish them the very best of luck!
