Year 11 students received their Key Stage Three certificates and awards at a special awards ceremony held recently at the Bessbrook school.
Welcoming the students and their invited guests, Principal, Mr Oliver Mooney took the opportunity to congratulate last year’s Year 10 students for their endeavour and hard work over their first three years at secondary school, and paid tribute to their teachers and parents for their encouragement and support. Mr Mooney said that the Key Stage 3 results for this year group were outstanding, including students achieving Level 8 in Key Stage 3 Science.
Mr Mooney extended a special welcome to guest speaker Cormac McDonnell, a past pupil of St Paul’s, who studied Law at Queen’s University, Belfast and who has recently opened a new legal practice in Newry, McDonnell, McNamee and Duffy Solicitors.
Speaking to the Year 11 students Cormac congratulated their achievements and reminded the students of the importance of continued study as a sure fire way to success in later life.
Head of Year 11 at St Paul’s, Mr Mary McMahon thanked Mr McDonnell for his inspirational words and for returning to St Paul’s, and wished him and his new legal practice every good wish in the future.
Mr Mooney extended particular thanks to Mrs McMahon, and her pastoral team of Form Teachers who mentor this group of students daily.

Special Awards to students who have an excellent attendance record since Year 8:
St Paul’s High School is a thriving, innovative educational community of almost 1500 students of all abilities, from children with learning difficulties in our Learning Support Centre to high calibre academic achievers in our AS, A2 and Applied Post-16 courses.
All classrooms are equipped as standard with interactive whiteboards, and students and staff are encouraged to make the fullest use of technology for learning and teaching.
The school, which was established in 1966 with the aim of providing its pupils with a Christian education within the Catholic ethos, is situated on a modern campus in pleasant rural surrounding in the townland of Carrickbracken, County Armagh.
St Paul’s High School was designated by the Department of Education as a Specialist College for Science in 2008, and the school was awarded the BECTA ICT Mark in 2009.
