Year 12 Technology and Design students recently visited MJM Marine Ltd. with their teacher Mr Bill Geoghegan, Miss Aoidin D’Arcy (student teacher) and Mr Gabriel Morris (technician).
MJM Interior Build was established in 1983 in Newry as a family-owned joinery business.
However, MJM Interior Build has evolved into a leading international specialist in new build, refurbishment and fit-out services to the marine, commercial and private sectors.
They are currently working on the contract for the Queen Elizabeth cruise ship.
Students learned all about health and safety in the work environment before they were shown the process of designing items of furniture, the sourcing and ordering of materials and the final product being manufactured and assembled on a factory floor.
MJM also recycles on a huge scale. Waste is turned into fuel to heat their offices and factory. Metals and plastic waste are separated and sold on.
The knowledge students took away from MJM Marine Ltd. will serve them well in their examinations in June.
