Record numbers of St Paul’s students spent part of their summer learning Irish at the Donegal Gaeltacht. Students attended colleges in both Loch an Iúir and Machaire Rabhartaigh.
Head of Irish at St Paul’s, Miss Ciara McCoy, was delighted with the huge increase in numbers of students heading to Donegal during the Summer break.
“It is fantastic to see. The Gaeltacht experience is a truly unique one. The students return enthused and with a new confidence in the language. We hope to see these numbers continue to grow over the coming years.”
Some students who attended the Gaeltacht courses achieved additional awards including their silver and gold Fáinní and the meanteastas and ardteastas award.
“It is a sign of the great love for the language that is evident in our communities and especially in our school. We are grateful for the help offered to the students attending the Gaeltacht through the form of scholarships. Money raised for our annual Céilí Mór offers some financial assistance to students who chose to spend their summers in the Gaeltacht areas of Donegal. In addition we are supported by the Extended Schools Programme, Gael Linn, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael and Comhaltas Uladh.”
Gaeltacht forms for summer 2017 will be available online and in schools around Halloween time.
