Year 13 and Year 14 BTec Level 3 Applied Science students attended a course on Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) on Thursday 20th November.
During the two and a half hour session the students were able to analyse the components of everyday painkillers using the facilities of the STEM module that are not available in school laboratories. This process was an essential part of their Unit 4 – Practical Techniques course.

St Paul’s High School was designated by the Department of Education as a Specialist College for Science in 2008, and the school was awarded the BECTA ICT Mark in 2009.

Applied science is the way to go, more students should be encouraged to take it on.
