In May 2014, after studying the geology of our local area, some of our Year 9 classes went on a field trip to Slieve Gullion.
Accompanied by a geologist and an archaeologist, they became more aware of the unique and outstanding geology, archaeology and scenery in the Ring of Gullion area that we live so close to.
The potential to develop geotourism was explained and evident from their experience of climbing to the top of Slieve Gullion to appreciate the striking scenery formed by plate tectonics (earthquakes and volcanoes) and glaciation during the ice ages.
