Congratulations to Year 9 student Paddy McGrath, winner of the Library Hallowe’en poetry competition, pictured with ‘scary’ Head of P.E. Mr John Rafferty
Paddy’s winning Hallowe’en poem is below.

The scariest thing that I ever saw
Was last Hallowe’en at the St Paul’s Spook Ball
I had only just started the school at the time
And no one had warned me in advance of my crime.
It was orange and white and stood five feet tall
It had hairs everywhere and it carried a ball
It swore and it roared and it gave me abuse
Whatever I said…it was no use!
It told me that Down would never win owt
And Armagh would haunt them by day and by night
I screamed and I roared and I ran for my life
With the beast charging after me, causing me strife
My crime? Well you see I wore a Down disguise
And my teacher he told me that this wasn’t wise
“Not here in Bessbrook at the home of St Paul’s”
“We only like orange and white in our halls”
But the beast, I asked later – who could that be?
“Ah” said the teacher…that was John Raff..er..ty!!
