Every academic year St Paul’s offers an opportunity to students in Year 14 to join the Senior Leadership Team. Four of the successful candidates will also be put forward by their peers and staff members for the position of Head Boys and Head Girls and this year Jack Mallon, Aaron Cinnamond, Ellen Daly and Karen Murphy hold the esteemed positions.
The prestigious role of the Head Boy and Head Girl is to lead the Students’ Council and Senior Leadership and act as the students representatives. They are also ambassadors for the school and represent us on both academic and social events.
We caught up with our two Head Boys and two Head Girls to learn a few things about them.
Jack Mallon
1. What is your favourite part of St Paul’s and your favourite subject?
Jack: ‘My favourite thing about St Paul’s is the respect that is given to pupils by teachers and members of staff. This means that you can speak to them if you have a problem as well as being able to have the craic. As a senior student you’re given more freedom within the school to pursue your interests. My favourite subject in St Pauls is Maths.’
2. How would you describe yourself in three words?
Jack: ‘Friendly, motivated, outgoing’
3. What would you classify your taste in music to be and who would your favourite artist be?
Jack: ‘I have a wide range in music but some of my favourite artists are Ed Sheeran , Kings of Leon and Foo Fighters.’
Aaron Cinnamond
1. What is your favourite part of St Paul’s and your favourite subject?
Aaron: ‘My favourite part of St Pauls would have to be being a senior pupil in the school. Once you become a senior pupil you form a positive relationship with the teachers, this allows for mutual respect between pupils and teachers and this also allows for a bit of craic as well. My favourite subject would have to be Business Studies.’
2. How would you describe yourself in three words?
Aaron: ‘Friendly, Reliable and Motivated’
3. What would you classify your taste in music to be and who would your favourite artist be?
Aaron: ‘I have a wide range of music taste, listening to a lot of different types. I would find it hard to choose my favourite artist however Ed Sheeran, Ben Howard and Mumford and Sons are artists that I really like.’
Ellen Daly
1. What is your favourite part of St Paul’s and your favourite subject?
Ellen: ‘My favourite thing about St. Pauls is their pupil-centred approach to all aspects of school life and the warm and family- like atmosphere they provide. This atmosphere is built through the strong and positive relationships between pupils and teachers, which for me makes school more enjoyable and motivates me to work harder. My favourite subject would be religion, as I feel it is a lot more relaxing because I enjoy getting a break from my other coursework subjects.’
2. How would you describe yourself in three words?
Ellen: ‘Friendly, approachable, helpful’
3. What would you classify your taste in music to be and who would your favourite artist be?
Ellen: ‘I would particularly like pop music and my favourite artists would be Ed Sheeran, One direction and Westlife.’
Karen Murphy
1. What is your favourite part of St Paul’s and your favourite subject?
Karen: ‘I would have to say my favourite part about being in St. Paul’s is always feeling like you are part of a family and despite the size of the school there is always a familiar face around the next corner. I love the respect each student gets from the teachers, especially being a senior student getting to see the school in a new light. My favourite subject would have to be maths, it is the sense of satisfaction gained from problem solving and using my own initiative that first attracted me to the subject although it can be quite challenging at times.’
2. How would you describe yourself in three words?
Karen: ‘Kind, friendly and fun’
3. What would you classify your taste in music to be and who would your favourite artist be?
Karen: ‘I like to listen to a lot of different artists and genres such as Kodaline or Rihanna but if I had to pinpoint my favourite it would definitely be Westlife.’
