Celebrating Excellence: Class of 2024 Senior Prizegiving

It was a pleasure to welcome pupils of the Class of 2024, their parents and carers, and esteemed guests to the St Paul’s Senior Prizegiving ceremony on Thursday 5 September 2024, an opportunity to reflect on the hard work, resilience, and remarkable achievements of this incredible group of pupils.

In his address to parents, Acting Principal, Mr Dáithí Murray, thanked the pupils for the dedication and commitment to their studies. He remarked that ‘just four months ago, at the Leavers’ Mass in May, I stood before our pupils as they prepared for their final examinations. I encouraged them to dig deep, make that final push, and stay focused on securing the grades they deserved. Tonight, I stand with pride, knowing they not only met the challenge but exceeded expectations. The outstanding results in August are a testament to their dedication and perseverance.’

Mr Murray introduced the platform party, including Mrs Eileen Fearon, Chair of Governors. Mrs Fearon has led St Paul’s through an incredible period of growth and success since her appointment as Chair over ten years ago. Joining Mrs Fearon on the stage, and representing the Board of Governors, was Father Seán Larkin, Parish Priest Emeritus of Lower Killeavy and former Chair of the Board of Governors.

Mr Murray extended a very special welcome to the Guest Speaker, Aaron McKay, a proud past pupil and one of the heroes of Armagh’s All-Ireland Senior Football triumph. Mr Murray said that Aaron’s journey from a dedicated pupil to a full-back scoring a crucial goal in the All-Ireland final is an inspiration. His humble character and commitment to supporting young people facing challenges in education speak volumes about the leader he has become.

Special guest of honour was Mr Ciaran Conlon, brother of the late Brian Conlon, founder of First Derivative, who presented the Brian Conlon Foundation Scholarship Award.  Mr Conlon spoke to the assembled audience about the significance of the scholarship award and its importance in recognising those pupils most deserving of support at the point when they transition from post-primary to third-level education.
