Bessbrook native Teddy Colligan, former custodian of Ulster Tower, visits St. Paul’s

Mr Teddy Colligan, MBE, visited St. Paul’s this week to chat to the Year 10 students who are travelling on a History Collaboration trip with Newtownhamilton High School and St. Joseph’s College Ipswich, to Belgium and the Somme. Mr Colligan who is originally from Bessbrook, was recently awarded an MBE and was custodian of the Ulster Tower in France for over 15 years.

He was able to show the students maps of the areas in which they will be visiting such as Thiepval Wood. He also spoke to the students about the key collective roles played by Irish men in the 16th Irish Division as well as the 36th Ulster Division during the First World War. Mr Colligan’s visit made the students even more excited about their upcoming trip!
