St Paul’s have now won the Danske Bank Ulster Colleges Mac Cormack Cup, twice in only their third season at the top tier in Ulster Colleges football.
Having finished top of their group unbeaten, St Paul’s travelled to Queen’s Sport Area at The Dub, Belfast to play against Omagh CBGS in the Mac Cormack Cup Final.
It was Omagh who made the first move in the game as they found the back of the net in their first attack to put them a goal up in the opening two minutes.
St Paul’s weren’t long getting on the scoreboard as Jarly Óg Burns got them up and running with a fine point that was quickly followed up when Shea Hoey converted a free.
Omagh then got their second score of the game to put them two points clear, however on the eleventh minute of the game, St Paul’s took the lead when Shea Hoey got on the end of a long ball over the top and cooly rolled the ball into the net.
St Paul’s started to dominate the game and went in at half time leading by two points.
Half time: St Paul’s 1-06 Omagh CBGS 1-04
Similar to their performance against St Colman’s College, St Paul’s started the second half like a house on fire and never looked like losing. For twenty five minutes in the second half they restricted Omagh to just two points, whilst scoring a goal and eleven points.
Great play by Omagh in the dying minutes rewarded them with a late consolation goal, but at this point the game was surely beyond them and St Paul’s had won their second Mac Cormack Cup in three years.

I couldn’t be more proud of all of you. A real team effort from the players and their mentors. Enjoy the break over Christmas and start again as you left off. Only your best will be good enough so never underestimate any opponent. Good luck in 2015.
