St Paul’s Year 9 Soccer News – League & Cup Doubleheader Victory!

Before Christmas, our league fixture against Tandragee Junior High School had to be postponed due to a weather warning. As fate would have it, we were then drawn against Tandragee in the Mid Ulster Cup quarter-final. Both schools agreed to play one match as a doubleheader, meaning league points and a place in the cup semi-final were all on the line. Pressure was high — and the boys delivered brilliantly.
The match was played in extremely challenging conditions, with gusty winds and driving rain making every pass and challenge difficult. St Paul’s made a shaky start, going 1–0 down to a determined Tandragee side while playing into the strong wind.
As the first half progressed, the boys grew into the game, finding their rhythm. In keeping with recent performances, Eoin Bradley stepped up once again with a calm, composed finish to bring us level.
The second half saw St Paul’s raise their performance levels even further. Eoin struck again to put us ahead with another clever finish, this time following a beautifully timed assist from Ryan Morgan.
In midfield, Donnacha Trainor produced yet another eye-catching, all-action display, showing determination, energy, and covering every blade of grass. His hard work was rewarded with two superb goals:
• A bullet header from a pinpoint Mark McKevitt corner, and
• An audacious overhead kick to cap off his performance.
Our striker Anthony McGeough added to the tally with a well-taken goal of his own, once again thanks to the creativity of Mark McKevitt, who continues to rack up assists with his vision and composure on the ball.
With this  all-round team performance, we now await our opponents for the Cup semi-final and continue our push to finish the league campaign as strongly as possible. The boys are showing real character, quality, and momentum.
A huge thank you to our generous sponsors, Fiships, for their continued support of the team.
