We are incredibly excited about our upcoming production of the amazing musical ‘Oliver!’ , which will begin its run of four performances this Sunday evening (20 October) at 7.30 p.m. sharp. Our incredible cast and production team have been working hard in rehearsals over the last few weeks and months and, before they take to the stage, you might like to meet the cast…
Áine Osborne – Widow Corney Áine, a seasoned performer at St. Paul’s, is taking on her latest role as Widow Corney in the school’s production of “Oliver.” While her previous experiences in productions such as “Chicago” and “Beauty and the Beast” may not have included central or leading roles, Áine is thrilled to be taking on a more prominent part in this latest endeavour. Despite the challenges and the fast-paced nature of the rehearsal process. As Áine collaborates with her fellow cast members to bring the production to life, she is filled with excitement and anticipation, eager to showcase her talents and contribute to the creation of a truly great show.
Dónal Lewis – Mr Brownlow Dónal, a 16-year-old student in Year 13, is excited to be taking on the role of Mr. Brownlow in his school’s production of ‘Oliver!’. This will be Dónal’s second musical performance at St. Paul’s, having previously appeared in the 2022 production of ‘Chicago’. Dónal studied drama at the GCSE level from 2022-2024, earning a grade 5 in performing arts (acting) from Trinity College London. He is thrilled to be playing this role and hopes the production will be just as brilliant as the school’s previous musicals.
Jim Loughran – Knife Grinder Jim Loughran is a 15-year-old 5th-year student, has gained valuable experience in various roles and activities. In 2018, he performed the lead role of King Herod in the Christmas Nativity Play. More recently, in 2022, he showcased his talents by performing in the St Paul’s Musical of ‘Chicago’. Additionally, in 2023, Rory had the prestigious opportunity to perform with the St Paul’s Senior Choir at the Vatican in Rome, as well as on RTE National television. Jim’s involvement extends beyond the stage. He is a member of the St Paul’s Senior Choir, the Second Year Public Speaking and Debate Team, and the Rannafast Boys Gaelic Football Team. These diverse memberships have allowed Rory to develop a well-rounded skillset and contribute to various aspects of school life. Rory’s experiences and achievements demonstrate his versatility and dedication to his interests and passions
Natalia Mulkearns – Strawberry Seller Natalia’s passion for the performing arts has been a driving force throughout her academic journey, and the upcoming school musical marks her second venture into the realm of musical theatre. Having previously showcased her talents in the school’s production of “Chicago” in 2022, Natalia now sets her sights on her next challenge, bringing her wealth of experience and dedication to the stage once more. Natalia’s involvement in the school’s vibrant performing arts community extends far beyond her role in the musical. As a dedicated A-Level music student, she lends her vocal prowess to various school choirs, including the NYCNI training choir and the Charles Wood choirs, where she had the opportunity to participate in competitions and hone her skills. Additionally, Natalia’s artistic versatility is further demonstrated through her participation in the school’s dance ensemble and African drums ensemble, showcasing her multifaceted talents and her unwavering commitment to exploring the diverse realms of the performing arts.
Sophie Carr – Mrs Sowerberry Sophie Carr, a Year 14 student, has immersed herself in the role Mrs. Sowerberry in the school’s upcoming production. As a passionate musician, Sophie’s love for the performing arts extends beyond the stage, and she is thrilled to be able to combine her musical talents. Her unwavering dedication and enthusiasm have not gone unnoticed, as the school community eagerly anticipates the final result of this “wondrous show.” Sophie’s infectious energy and her commitment to delivering a memorable portrayal of Mrs. Sowerberry have positioned her well to contribute to the overall success of the production.
Rua Convery – Milkmaid Rua, a Year 11 pupil at St. Paul’s, is excitedly anticipating her second musical performance with the school. Having previously participated in the 2022 production of “Chicago,” Rua’s experience and passion for the performing arts have only continued to grow. Under the guidance of her singing teacher, Fiona Flynn, Rua has been honing her vocal skills, working towards her Grade 6 qualification. Her dedication to her craft is further evidenced by her long-standing involvement with the Newry Pantomime, where she has been delighting audiences for the past 9 years. Now, as she takes on the role of the milkmaid in the school’s production of “Oliver,” Rua is embracing the opportunity to showcase her talents and share her love of performance with the audience. Rua’s enthusiasm for the production is palpable, and she is counting down the days until the opening night. The school community is eager to witness Rua’s continued growth and development as a performer, confident that her passion, skill, and experience will contribute to the overall success of the show.
Joseph Salisbury – Bill Sikes Joseph Salisbury, a newcomer to the stage, is eager to showcase his dramatic potential and physicality as he takes on the role of Bill Sikes in the school’s production of “Oliver!” Despite having no prior experience in school productions, Joseph is brimming with excitement at the opportunity to make his debut performance. While Joseph may be new to the world of school musicals, his enthusiasm and dedication to the craft of acting are evident. The character of Bill Sikes, known for his intensity and physicality, presents a captivating challenge that Joseph is determined to conquer. Through his unwavering commitment to the role and his willingness to step outside his comfort zone, Joseph aims to deliver a performance that will leave a lasting impression on the audience.
Dáithí Hoey – The Artful Dodger Dáithí, a 14-year-old Year 10 pupil, is set to take on the captivating role of the Artful Dodger in the school’s production of “Oliver.” Though this may be his first foray into a full-fledged musical, Dáithí’s experience in the performing arts extends beyond the confines of the school stage. In his previous endeavours, he showcased his talents as Goldilocks in the Roald Dahl-inspired production during his primary school days. Now, under the guidance of Fiona Flynn at Flynn Performing Arts, Dáithí is honing his skills, working diligently towards his Grade 5 music theatre and classical exams. Beyond his theatrical pursuits, Dáithí’s well-rounded talents are further exemplified by his involvement in the school’s extracurricular activities. As a member of the Year 10 Gaelic football team and a tenor in the school’s senior mixed choir, Dáithí continues to expand his artistic horizons. Additionally, his participation in the Year 10 African drums ensemble showcases his diverse musical interests. As Dáithí takes the stage in the role of the Artful Dodger, the school community eagerly anticipates his performance, confident that his passion, dedication, and multifaceted talents will contribute to the overall success of the production.
Freya Kearney – Charlotte Freya, a Year 12 student, is delighted to take on the captivating role of Charlotte in the school’s upcoming production of “Oliver.” This accomplished performer is no stranger to the stage, having honed her skills across a diverse array of theatrical and musical endeavours. Under the guidance of Peter Slane and Nuala Curran, Freya is currently working towards her Grade 4 cello, while on Saturdays, she lends her voice to the South Ulster Youth Mixed Choir. Freya’s passion for the performing arts extends beyond the realm of music, as she engages in speech and drama classes with Corrina Cunningham, working towards her Grade 7 musical theatre and singing exams with Julie Beattie. Additionally, she is undertaking GCSE drama with Pauline Lynch, further expanding her artistic repertoire. Freya’s extensive experience in the performing arts is evident in her impressive resume, which includes roles in productions such as “Seussical the Musical,” “Oliver,” and “Annie.” This will be Freya’s second time performing in “Oliver,” but this time, she has been entrusted with the character of Charlotte.
Conor Sands – Fagin Conor, a 16-year-old Year 13 student at St. Paul’s High School, is a multitalented performer who has made a name for himself in the local performing arts scene. As a member of the prestigious National Youth Choir of Northern Ireland and the EA South Ulster Youth Orchestra and Band, Conor has honed his musical skills to a remarkable degree. Attending Flynn Performing Arts, he has earned distinctions in his Grade 7 Classical Singing and Grade 8 Musical Theatre under the tutelage of Fiona Flynn. Conor is also currently working towards his diploma in Musical Theatre. Conor’s passion for the performing arts extends beyond the confines of the school, as he is also a member of the Newry Musical Society, where he has taken on roles such as the Manager (Elf) and TJ (Sister Act). Additionally, Conor has been a member of Newry Youth Performing Arts since its inception, and during his time there, he has achieved distinctions in Grade 6 Speech and Drama and Grade 5 Acting under the guidance of Jordan Walsh. Conor’s impressive repertoire includes a diverse array of characters, from Billy Flynn (Chicago) to Javert (Les Misérables), and he has even recently performed as Hans in Frozen Jr. with the Bosco Drama Group. As Conor takes on the role of Fagin in the school’s production of Oliver!, he is thrilled to share his exceptional talents with the audience.
Tiarnan McKevitt – Noah Claypole Tiarnan McKevitt, a 16-year-old student in Year 13, is eagerly anticipating his upcoming role as Noah in his school’s production of “Oliver!” This will be Tiarnan’s second musical performance at the school, having previously appeared in the 2022 production of “Chicago.” Tiarnan’s passion for the performing arts extends beyond the stage, as he has dedicated 12 years to studying drama with the Sheridan Stage School. His commitment to his craft is further evidenced by his academic achievements, including a Grade 6 in acting from Trinity College London and his current pursuit of a Grade 7 in acting with the New Era Academy in London. In addition to his extensive drama training, Tiarnan also excelled in GCSE Music and Drama during the 2022-2024 academic years, showcasing his well-rounded artistic abilities. With his impressive credentials and experience, Tiarnan is poised to deliver a captivating performance as Noah.
Ruairí O’Hagan – Oliver Twist Ruairi, a Year 10 pupil, is embarking on an exciting new chapter as he takes the stage in his first musical production with St. Paul’s. Though this may be his debut on the school’s theatrical platform, Ruairi’s passion for the performing arts is evident in his diverse musical experiences. Under the guidance of his singing teacher, Fiona Flynn, Ruairi is working diligently towards his first singing grade, honing his vocal skills to bring his portrayal of the iconic character, Oliver Twist, to life. His previous experiences in music, including playing the African drums, participating in school choirs, and learning the piano and tin whistle, have undoubtedly contributed to his well-rounded artistic abilities. As Ruairi eagerly anticipates the production’s debut on the big stage, the school community is excited to witness his talents and dedication shine through in his performance as Oliver
Ellen Rafferty – Charlie Bates Ellen a talented and versatile performer, has taken on the role of Charlie Bates in the school’s production of ‘Oliver.’ Ellen’s passion for the performing arts, including dancing, singing, and acting, has shone through in her portrayal of this character. Playing Charlie has challenged Ellen to step outside her comfort zone, allowing her to thrive and showcase her impressive acting abilities. Ellen is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this production and would like to ex- press her heartfelt appreciation to the amazing cast and teachers who have supported the students throughout the process. This experience has not only allowed Ellen to grow as an actor but has also provided her with invaluable opportunities to develop her skills and explore her love for the performing arts.
Elen McCabe – Bet Elen McCabe is a 17-year-old Year 14 pupil at St Paul’s, has demonstrated her versatility and passion for the performing arts. In the upcoming school production of ‘Oliver,’ Megan will take on the role of ‘Bet,’ marking her second school production after previously portraying ‘Mona’ in the 2022 produc- tion of ‘Chicago.’ Beyond her school commitments, Megan has participated in several productions with the Bosco Drama Group, including ‘Oliver,’ ‘Annie,’ and ‘Honk.’ Elen’s involvement in the arts extends beyond the stage. She is currently working towards her Grade 8 in both Classical Singing and Musical Theatre under the guidance of Fiona Flynn Performing Arts. Additionally, Megan is a French horn player, tutored by Naoimh Mathers. At school, Megan is a mem- ber of the Student Leadership Team, the Senior Girls Choir, the Senior Mixed Choir, the Orchestra, and the Brass Ensemble. Megan and her peers have dedicated a tremendous amount of time and effort into this production, and they hope the audience will enjoy the show.
Ned Clarke – Mrs Sowerberry Ned Clarke, a 17-year-old student at St. Paul’s, is excitedly awaiting his debut performance in the school’s upcoming production. While this may be his first venture into the world of school musicals, Ned’s involvement in the school’s African drumming group, choir, and orchestra has honed his mu- sical talents and prepared him for this exciting opportunity. Beyond his contributions to the school’s musical ensembles, Ned has also showcased his skills as a percussionist, having performed in the pit band for the Bosco production of “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.” As Ned steps onto the St. Paul’s stage for the first time, he is brimming with enthusiasm and a deter- mination to make the most of this chance to share his talents with the audience. The school community is eagerly anticipating Ned’s debut, confident that his passion, dedication, and musical prowess will contribute to the overall success of the production.
Daniel Boyle – Mr Bumble Daniel, a newcomer to the world of stage productions, is eagerly embracing his role as the imperious Mr. Bumble in the school’s rendition of “Oliver.” While he may not have extensive experience in theatrical performances, Daniel’s talent and versatility have been recognized by the production team, who approached him for the part after the official auditions. Initially hesitant to accept the role, Daniel’s perspective shifted as he began attending the rehearsals, captivated by the opportunity to showcase his abilities in a production of this scale. Daniel’s previous experience in the performing arts includes directing Act One and writing the script for his GCSE performance arts group module, for which the ensemble received commendable B grades. Now, as he steps into the shoes of the pompous and self-important Mr. Bumble, Daniel is embracing the chance to explore a different facet of his artistic expression, relishing the freedom to shout and yell – a side of himself that he typically keeps in check. Daniel is excited to deliver a memorable performance that will undoubtedly captivate the audience.
Keeley Magill – Mrs Bedwin Keeley Magill is a talented musical theatre performer who studies under the tutelage of Fiona Flynn at Flynn Performing Arts. She also trains with and is managed by Stagebox London for acting for screen and speech and drama. Over the years, Keeley has had the opportunity to perform in many shows, including family favourites like “Les Misérables” and “Grease.” Most recently, Keeley played the role of “Miss Hedge” in the Irish Premiere of “Everybody’s Talking about Jamie.” She is now thrilled to be taking on the role of “Mrs Bedwin” and has thoroughly enjoyed the rehearsal process with her friends.
Niall O’Hagan – Dr Grimwig Niall is thrilled to be part of his first theatrical production, the school’s rendition of “Oliver,” where he has been entrusted with the role of the enigmatic Dr. Grimwig. As rehearsals for the play have progressed, Niall has found himself captivated by the process, revelling in the opportunity to breathe life into his character. Niall’s excitement at being a part of this incredible production is palpable, and he can hardly contain his anticipation to take the stage. The chance to contribute to the school’s theatrical legacy has filled him with a profound sense of joy and purpose, and he is determined to deliver a performance that will leave a lasting impression on the audience. With his unwavering dedication and the support of his fellow cast members, Niall is thrilled to make his mark in this landmark production.
Aoibhe Hoey – Nancy Aoibhe, a 17-year-old student at the school, is eager to take on the role of Nancy in the upcoming pro- duction of “Oliver.” This talented performer is no stranger to the stage, having previously showcased her skills as one of the six merry murderesses in the school’s production of “Chicago.” Aoibhe has achieved a Grade 7 in both musical theatre and classical singing under the tutelage of Fiona Flynn. Aoibhe is a well-rounded individual, serving on the school’s student leadership team, representing the school’s U20 football team, and lending her vocal talents to both the Senior Girls Choir and the Senior Mixed Choir. Aoibhe’s dedication to her studies, as evidenced by her A-level choices in Spanish, Religion, and Health and Social Care, is matched by her commitment to the school’s international projects, as she prepares to travel to Kenya at the end of the month. The school community is eagerly anticipating Aoibhe’s performance as Nancy, confident that her passion, talent, and diverse experiences will contribute to the overall success of the production. With her impressive background and unwavering dedication, Aoibhe is poised to captivate the audience and leave a lasting impression.
Niamh McComb – Roseseller Niamh McComb is a 17-year-old year 14 pupil at St Paul’s. She is currently studying Music, Math, and Biology for her A-levels. In this production of ‘Oliver,’ Niamh is taking on the role of the Rose Seller, which marks her second show after previously being part of the ensemble in ‘Chicago.’ Niamh is an active member of her school community, serving on the Student Leadership Team, participating in the Senior Girls choir, Senior Mixed choir, and the school orchestra. She has also been selected to travel to Kenya at the end of the month as part of the school’s International Projects. Niamh is continuing her vocal training, currently working towards her grade 6 classical singing grade with Fiona Flynn after previously completing grades 4 and 5 with Jonathan Reynolds.
