On Friday 6th May, a number of St Paul’s students participated in the UK Mathematics Trust Junior Maths Challenge.
A total of 25 students walked away with prestigious certificates for all their efforts.
The Junior Maths Challenge is organised by the UK Mathematics Trust which was founded in 1996 to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics.
The Trust sets challenges in three tiers – junior, intermediate and senior – for secondary school students from 11-18 across the UK. The challenges attract over half a million entries every year from over 4000 schools and colleges.
Gold, silver and bronze certificates are awarded to 40 per cent of participants nationally and the most successful participants at each level are invited to enter follow-on rounds.
St Paul’s students were successful right across the board with Conor McKeever, Rebecca Gamble, Caroline McMenamin, Melissa Crawley, Sean Cully, Aaron Anderson, Hannah Rushe, Shauna Hughes, Aaron Cinnamond, Declan Lynch and Gerard McCann receiving Silver Certificates and Bronze Certificates going Ciaron McMullan, Orla McManus, Kevin Donnelly, Shea Coleman, Conor McKevitt, Grace Dowdall, Siofra McNulty, Cathal O’Brien, Ryan Gaskin, Eimear Hoey, Rachel Rigney, Sarah Ferguson, Ryan Crozier and Stephen King.
Maths teacher, Laura Hollywood was delighted with the success of the students, saying: “These awards reflect the high standard of mathematics in St Paul’s and have helped develop pupils’ skills in other walks of life. The pupils have shown tremendous enthusiasm for the challenges and I’m delighted their work has paid off.”
