The dedication of our school library took place on Friday 16th December 2005. Mr. Michael Warde, the first principal of St. Paul’s and his wife Sheila attended a ceremony to officially open the Michael Warde Library.
Mr. Michael Warde recounts his time at St. Paul’s and thanks the organisers of the event. He was Principal from 1966 when the school opened until 1996.
Mrs. Anne Mallon, Vice Principal was Master of Ceremonies and spoke about the valuable contribution Mr. Warde made to the lives of all the students and staff during his time at St Paul’s.
Rev. Fr Larkin speaks on behalf of the current Board of Governors and Rev. Fr Bradley, former Chairman of the Board of Governors, recalls key events in the school life of Mr. Warde.
Fr Dermot Maloney, School Chaplain, blesses the library.
“We dedicate this library to the education of youth and the progress of learning. May it become a centre where students and teachers, imbued with the words of truth, will search for the wisdom that guides the Christian life and strive to stand by Christ as their teacher, who lives and reigns forever and ever.”
Head boy, Caolan Connolly and Head girl, Blinne Mallie read the bidding prayers at the blessing.
Mr. Oliver Mooney, Principal, concludes the ceremony by thanking the organiser of the event Mr. Jarlath Burns, Vice Principal and asking Mr. Warde to unveil the official plaque at the entrance to the library. Mrs. Lorraine Kane, longest serving member of staff then presented Mrs. Warde with a bouquet of flowers.
Mr. Warde officially opens the library by cutting the ceremonial ribbon.
Mr. Warde also unveiled a portrait of himself, which will hang above the Issue Desk in the library.
