The National Literacy Trust in their report, ‘Literacy Changes Lives’ present overwhelming evidence that literacy, happiness and success are directly related. Here at St Paul’s our teachers and entire staff value the central role that literacy plays in pupils achieving their goals and living happy and fulfilling lives. To that end, Literacy Across the Curriculum is a constant focus in all subject areas. Currently our whole school focus is WRITING and each month we work collaboratively on developing and improving a specific aspect of writing.
We also provide one-to-one and small group literacy support as well as in class literacy support provided by highly motivated, dedicated, caring Literacy Support Assistants. Our goal is to help each pupil work towards fulfilling their potential.
We have two dedicated Literacy Support/Reading Rooms which provide a comfortable and stimulating environment with a wide range of interesting display materials, books to read and technology to support learning.
Once a pupil has been selected and timetabled slots arranged to attend Literacy Support, a tailored programme is designed to meet the individual needs of the pupil. Specific Literacy programmes that we deliver include Reading Partnership, Write Away Together, Talking Partners and Fluency Tutor, as well as language support for EAL Newcomer pupils.
